As a teenager in the early 60s, soul music ran through Tony’s veins. When he could afford it, Tony would buy the latest Motown, Stax and Atlantic records, which he had listened to on Radio Luxembourg and the pirate ships Caroline and Radio London. (as you can appreciate “Auntie Beeb” was not playing these type of tunes).
In late 1969 Tony ventured out on an ambition to run his own mobile disco, playing more of the deleted Motown tracks, together with Northern Soul records imported from the States. He still does a few gigs today.
In 2011, Tony was approached regarding a weekly radio show, which he decided to accept and within weeks was really enjoying presenting a weekly Northern Soul show, wondering why he had left it so long to get into radio work.
His two-hour show every Tuesday comprises of a good mix of cutting edge Northern classics, obscure Motown numbers, plus some 70s and 80s tunes from some of the more modern soul listeners, adding up to a good overall repertoire of music played.
