Reach Fair Ride
Sunday May 5, 2019 - Monday May 6, 2019
Every year, the Cambridge Cycling Campaign organizes a ride to the historic fair in the village of Reach at the end of Devil’s Dyke.
Assemble on Bank Holiday, May 6th, from 9.00 am in front of the Guildhall on Market Square, Cambridge. Ride departs at 10.00 am.
You’ll arrive in the village of Reach for the opening of the historic country fair at noon by the Mayor of Cambridge. The fair dates back over 800 years and still has the tradition of throwing pennies for “the poor villagers” – children today scrabble for as many as they can. There are stalls, fairground rides, a maypole, Morris dancing and food and drink tents. It’s perfect for a family day out.
This year the ride returning from Reach will depart at 3.00 pm to allow riders more time to enjoy the fair.
On the day, make sure you bring water, snacks, a bike lock and money to buy food. The pace will be leisurely, taking under two hours each way.
