One Woman Show – Green Knight – Cancelled
Tuesday March 24–Saturday March 28
Scottish theatre-maker Debbie Cannon will bring her one woman show Green Knight to Cambridge’s Corpus Playroom this March. The show is based on the medieval poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, but presents an Arthurian adventure with a twist: this tale of knighthood is retold by one of its female characters.
The story begins when the mysterious Green Knight bursts into the new year feast at King Arthur’s court and issues a deadly beheading challenge to Camelot’s best knight, Sir Gawain. A year later, Gawain sets out to fulfil his quest and find the Green Knight, but he is waylaid by a determined young woman with her own game to play.
Debbie is particularly excited to bring the show to Cambridge. ‘I lived in Cambridge for 6 years when I was younger. It’s also where I first read the poem of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, back when I was 18, and I’ve loved the story ever since. I wanted to build a show around it, both to re-tell the story, which is a wonderful, exciting tale, but also to give a voice to the woman at its heart.
Green Knight will play at Corpus Playroom from 24-28 March, from 7.00-8.00 pm. The show is suitable for ages 10 and upwards.
