New Exhibition – The Lives of Fenland Women at Denny Abbey, Farmland Museum

Friday June 3, 2022

On Thursday 2nd June as part of events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a new exhibition will open at the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey near Waterbeach to showcase the lives of Fenland women.

Fenland histories often focus on drainage and farming, which have traditionally been viewed as men’s work. This exhibition looks at what Fenland life was like for women: from working in the fields, to motherhood and crafts. Inspired by the Platinum Jubilee and remarkable life of Queen Elizabeth II, the artefacts within this display date from across the 20th Century, presenting some very different experiences from those of our monarch.

The museum will also be running Jubilee-themed craft activities and a trail for children on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June, with traditional outdoor games available for all the family to have a go! The Docky Box cafe team will be baking a variety of ‘Best of British’ treats to enjoy all weekend.

All admission tickets to the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey are Annual Passes, providing free repeat entry for 12 months, so do check last year’s as it might still be valid! If you don’t yet have an Annual Pass, or last year’s has expired, you’ll automatically get one the first time you visit.
