The place is Venice. The time is a few years from now. After a period of political and religious upheaval, the once famous city of Venice has been submerged by flooding. The world has been thrown into disarray and in Venice two clear groups have emerged: those above the water and those down below.
Shylock, a Jew, lives down by the slums of the water with her daughter, Jessica. As those above borrow money from those below, the oppressed Shylock seizes her opportunity for revenge.
Shakespeare’s most divisive play comes to the ADC stage, exploring what happens when society steals everything from you. In a world where the rich make the rules and chaos is the currency, how easy is it to take revenge when you no longer have anything to lose?
