Programme – Richard Barnard In Cambridge Town (world premiere), Haydn Symphony No. 7 (Le Midi), Bruch Scottish Fantasy, Bartok Concerto for Orchestra.
Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra is something brilliant and exciting that shows off the whole orchestra superbly, and is one of the most thrilling rides in 20th century music. Bartok was heavily influenced by folk music of his native Hungary, so the orchestra precedes it with Bruch’s colourful Scottish Fantasy, which also plays around with folk tunes.
